iPhone Duo Launch: Apple Warns of Limited Walk-In Stock Amid Surging Demand
Apple’s iPhone Duo launches on October 23, but limited walk-in stocks and mandatory pickup reservations in several countries could complicate purchases. Find out where customers can buy the foldable phone and what its key specifications include.
In a statement, Apple described demand for the iPhone Duo as “extraordinary” and said availability for customers without reservations would be “limited”. The warning comes ahead of the device’s official retail launch, with purchasing options varying across countries.
Limited walk-in stock will be available in the US, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye and the UK. Selected Apple Stores in Italy will also have some units available, although Apple has not identified the specific locations. In Macao, walk-in purchases will be permitted only on launch day, with inventory also expected to be limited.
Customers in France, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the UAE will face stricter restrictions. They will not be able to purchase the iPhone Duo as walk-in customers on launch day. Instead, buyers will need to reserve a pickup time slot through Apple’s online store.
However, securing a reservation may not be straightforward. Apple’s online store currently directs customers to check back on Saturday, October 24, leaving it unclear whether pickup reservations will be available on the launch day itself.
Apple restricts walk-in sales in some countries partly to manage crowd sizes and partly to combat scalpers. The company has also capped iPhone Duo purchases at two units per person in an effort to prevent bulk buying and resale.
Customers who have already placed pre-orders may have better news. Shipping dates have been brought forward for many buyers after delivery estimates previously slipped as far as January, highlighting the changing availability outlook following the initial surge in demand.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch foldable LTPO OLED main display with a resolution of 1878x2670 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. Its 5.4-inch LTPO OLED cover display offers a resolution of 1398x2034 pixels and also supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
The smartphone is powered by the A20 Pro chipset and comes with 12GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. Its camera system includes a 48MP main camera with sensor-shift optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 48MP ultrawide camera, a 12MP selfie camera on the cover screen and a 4MP under-display camera on the inner screen.
Other specifications include a 4,883 mAh battery, 25W MagSafe/Qi2 wireless charging, an IP68 rating and iOS 27.1. Pricing starts at $1,999, €2,299 in Germany and £1,999 in the UK.
With Apple limiting launch-day walk-in purchases in multiple markets and requiring advance pickup reservations in others, customers seeking the iPhone Duo on October 23 will need to check the availability rules applicable to their country before visiting a store.
